BarProducts.com eliminates 75% of shipping labor with better visibility and fewer errors

Barproducts.com is an e-commerce retailer of hospitality small wares. So, everything from cocktail strainers to shaker tins to poor spouts with an entire line of glassware. One of our slogans is “everything but the booze,” if a bartender is holding it or using it, we sell it. About two years ago there was an instance where we got hacked in our network. A malicious file was downloaded, and it spread rapidly and when you’re based off of a local network everything from your ERP to your email to everything, everything stopped. It halted and at that point, I realized you got to go to the cloud. That’s how we ended up looking at the cloud-based providers and everything from our Pick and Pack to our accounting to our email across the board and when we did our ERP search NetSuite was that number one cloud provider.

We had a very unique need in the fact that we actually don’t tell the customer on the front end exactly how we’re going to ship. We give them what we call simple shipping methods. It allows us to choose the most cost-effective shipping entity. NetSuite, they have a partner program that allowed us to go out there and fill that need and Pacejet was that company which provided the rate shopping of all the different shipping entities allowing us to pull in all different orders, and with the click of a button choose the most cost-effective way to get the order to the customer in the right number of days.

It’s kind of changed the game.

With Pacejet every package you’re, clicking rate, every package you’re going out you’re checking the prices of each and every shipping carrier and it gives us the choice if I do want to ship with somebody a little more expensive I can do that. But before it was not like that, and it was much more labor intensive.

I used to have I believe a total of four shippers. I have two facilities one out of New Salisbury Indiana and one of the Laura Florida and I would have two shippers in both locations, and I’ve been able to cut down to one of each. With Pacejet, I was able to decrease my shipping Workforce by 50%. Another feature that I really enjoy is what they call the containerization in terms of I’m able to tell the customer tell our ERP what items earn what package. Versus before I would literally be writing on the box what items were in what package, especially when it comes to International shipments where you have to provide data for what’s in each box. It was a mess. My International shipments became extremely efficient once I launched Pacejet.

We have a theory where in by 2 out by six if an order is placed by two o’clock that package will get out the door and a customer will get a tracking notification email in their inbox by 6 PM. In the past, it was a two to three day lag at times where we wouldn’t be getting orders out the same day and not only that but even if we did get an order out the same day the data in terms of notifying the customer was always delayed.

It’s all about getting the package to the customer as quickly as possible and the expectations are increasing every day and the customers always right you have to get it to them and get it to them right and with Pacejet, with NetSuite, that’s what I’ve been able to do.

As more online customers have grown to expect free or low cost shipping and tough competitors like Amazon entered the market, BarProducts.com maintained their competitive stance by rate-shopping manually to find the best shipping prices and using multiple shipping software applications to process orders. Ultimately the company ended up with about a dozen different software applications, process gaps, missing data, and a lot of manual work to keep up with growing order volumes. Without clear visibility of items shipped in boxes and with no centralized shipping data, customer service also struggled to keep up with customer tracking requests.
